Indoor Soccer, Goals, Injured Ankle, Late Night
As i write this, it’s 12:41am, way later than i wanted to be awake, and definitely much later than i wanted to be writing a blog post. The reason is that i played indoor soccer tonight at XLSoccerWorld, and we had a 10pm kickoff. EVen worse is that with 18 seconds left in the game, some ass shouldered me into the wall, making me roll my ankle, and hit pretty hard. It’s not the fact that i got hit, i mean, i give as good as i get usually, but in indoor soccer there’s basically a no hard contact rule. To make it even more of an asshole move, it was 18 seconds left, and they were losing by at least 3 or 4 goals. The game was over for all intents and purposes, but the guy must have been pissed at me making him look stupid all night. I think i scored about 5 or 6 out of the 9 or 10 goals we scored, and made sure to nutmeg at least a few of their players in the process. For you readers who don’t know what that is, it’s when you put the ball through the other player’s legs, retrieve it on the other side, shake some nutmeg on their face as you run by, and then smile at their girlfriend or wife in the crowd just to rub it in a little more. Well maybe not that harsh, but it’s pretty demoralizing when someone nutmegs you….and i did it at least 4 times tonight to their best guys.
Anyway, i rolled my ankle, and am in the process of icing it, and attempting to quell the swelling that is already fairly significant. I have another game, a more important game tomorrow night at XLSoccerWorld for my other team — ‘Easy Riders.’ We haven’t lost a game in the past 2 seasons, which is like 16 or 18 games i think. The closest anyone has come to beating us was when we won 7-6 against the 2nd best team in the league. All the other games are fairly comfortable for us. We have a really team, and a really good balance of players. Everyone has a great attitude, and even more important, is a pretty good player. There’s not really any weak links on our team at all, which is really nice.
So, i’ve sat here for enough time now that the ice has numbed my ankle enough. I’ve done the right thing….ice for 15 minutes, off for 15, rinse and repeat 3 or 4 times. Now it’s time for bed.
Hopefully in the morning i’ll be able to walk. I’ll be pretty pissed off if i cant walk, and can’t play tomorrow night.

Is it easier to score in indoor soccer or something? Those game scores sound more like football scores. When I played (outdoor) soccer our games were always something like 2 or 3 to 0 or 1, in that kind of range.
Of course it could have been that we (all in the league) just weren’t very good as it was an IBM intramural league. It certainly wasn’t because the teams had star goalies, I know that.
Anyway, heal soon! And be careful if you do play tonight!
yeah…the field is much smaller, the games are much quicker, and generally the players are not as strong all across the field. However, even in our toughest game so far, we won 7-6. Without sounding too arrogant though, it’s pretty typical for me to score at least 3 or 4 goals per game, and that’s only when i’m trying. Once we’re up a few goals, we usually take our foot off the pedal so as not to embarrass the other team too much (even though we’ve beaten teams 15-3 before).
