The first day of a resolution is always the easiest
Yesterday, i posted my goals for the week, and i’m happy to report that i’m still on track…..24 hours later that is. I guess the first day of anything new is the easiest. I mean, you’re still motivated, still energized to start something new, and you’ve probably set aside time to achieve your goals, and that hasn’t been interfered with….yet.
Well, today i hit a little speedbump, in that there was still copious amounts of snow and ice on the roads, making my first goal of running today, tomorrow and friday, a little difficult. But, in true Rocky Balboa fashion (before he lost all the weight), i threw on some gloves, an under armour shirt, and a beanie, and headed out to run at least a mile. I ended up doing a loop that’s about 0.7 miles to the turn, so i guess i ran about 1.4 miles total. Here’s my route:
I felt great after the run, which is to be expected. I mean, the endorphins that i’ve only been getting from Indoor Soccer twice a week, got an unexpected outing early this week. Plus, there’s something about being the only person out running on a cold day that gives you that extra little bit of encouragement. While running along watching the cars drive by, and the longer that you go without seeing anyone else walking, let alone running…well….it just makes you say to yourself “yeah….that’s right….i’m out here in the cold while all you softies are inside all nice and warm….who’s tough now!” Well…maybe not exactly like that, but you get the idea.
Anyway, today was a great day of getting things done. I weighed myself for the first time in a while. 233.5 pounds or 106 kilograms for my Aussie followers. I gotta admit, i thought i was in much worse shape than that. That’s not to say i think i’m in good shape…i mean, 233.5 is terrible for someone my age who wants to play soccer more than twice a week. But, i had nightmares of 240, 250 even. That’s my starting point though, and i know i can only go down from there….hopefully
As i’m reading through my goals for the week, i’m realizing i havent done my nightly pushups. Hold on…be right back. Hrmmm….that seemed easier than this morning.
Melody cookeda great meal tonight…stuffed peppers with green beans and smashed potatoes. We posted the recipe to www.meatlessmarvels.com tonight and the corresponding twitter account: @meatlessmarvels. We also made sure to pay off a large chunk of the lowes hardware bill, using the insurance money we got for our leaky bathroom. That means we don’t have any money to fix the bathroom, but at least we aren’t paying a high interest rate on that card as much as we would have. We think we’ve also found a good balance transfer card that we can use to consolidate all the interest. If anyone reading has a good one to suggest though, we’d really appreciate the heads-up on that, if you wouldn’t mind.
So, all in all, a great first day of goal-setting and goal-achieving. I won’t be doing this every day, or maybe i will….but in any case, here’s the updated list.
Goals for February 1st-February 7th, 2010
- Weigh myself, so i can record it as a starting point
- Do at least 20 push-ups each morning and 20 push-ups each night (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
- Go for a 1 mile jog on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
- Lose 2.5 pounds this week (and keep it off)
- Find and try out websites or applications to manage these goals
- Start pulling together the pictures of the house renovation for before/after montages — at least get the upstairs guest bedrooms done
- Pay off half of the Lowes Credit Card that we used for the house renovation (we have that money set aside already)
- Research balance transfer credit cards with Melody to consolidate our debt from the house renovation
Goals for February, 2010
- Lose 10 pounds (and keep it off)
- Have all of the before/after pictures pulled together for the house renovations, ready for making into a montage/FlickR set.
- Be running at least 3 times per week, for at least 1 mile at running pace + 1 mile at jogging pace
- Have all, or as much as possible debt consolidated onto a balance transferred card, so we’re paying lower interest/lower monthly payments starting in March.

Congrats, Nick. Are you using dailyburn.com to track weight, diet, or exercise? It has worked really, really well for me.
God, that sounds like a testimonial they’d use in an ad.
Keep up the good work!
not really — without an iPhone, its almost too much work to track things in DailyBurn on a regular basis. I will be putting my weight in there, but probably won’t do anything with the calorie-count or things like that.
