Today Melody and I decided to start the long overdue process of unboxing some of the things that we brought from Banner Elk. We moved here in August 2008, and we still have an entire room, full of boxes and computers that haven’t been touched. We went through a whole bunch of them, and now we’ve moved at least a lot of our books up into the office area. Our plan is to figure out how many (and how big) bookshelves we’ll need in the office. So once we have all the book boxes sorted, we’ll make a trip to Ikea or somewhere.

In the process, i found a whole lot of my old soccer jerseys and shirts that i want to keep, plus many more random shirts, sweaters, jeans, hoodies…pretty much the rest of my wardrobe from Banner Elk. I was brutally honest with myself though, and managed to put a full contractor-sized garbage bag of clothes aside for donation to Goodwill. Who am I kidding anyway….i had 4 pairs of 34/32 jeans/khakis that i havent fit into since 2002. I wear a 38/34 now at best :-) .

After the unboxing, Melody and I decided to head out for a run around the lake (Apex Community Park), which is right across Hwy 64 from us. The plan was to run the entire perimeter of the lake, which is supposed to total around 2 miles. Unfortunately, after getting half-way around, I saw that the trail was closed from that point onwards, which i’m guessing was due to the recent weather (snow, rain, mud). No big deal though…i turned around and headed back the same way. Looking on the map, i think i ended up running pretty close to 2 miles on the button, maybe a hair more.

Anyway…i felt pretty good after the run, even though it was in some pretty cold weather. We didn’t check the temperature before going out…that may have discouraged us a little. It took me about 17 minutes to run the 2 miles, which i’m not ecstatic about, but it’s still better than nothing. I honestly figured that when i got back out running on a regular basis that i’d be starting from a much lower point than 9 minute miles. I know guys on the Lees-McRae soccer team back in the day who couldn’t break 18 minutes on the first day of pre-season. If you’re wondering…they didnt get a lot of playing time until they shed a few pounds…and even then some didn’t play much if at all.

The other thing i did today, was do a quick check in on my goals for the week. I’ve been keeping them in my head, because there’s not many of them, but i figured i’d check in on all their statuses just in case i needed to make some drastic changes going into the last 36 hours of the week.

  • Pushups each morning and evening this week. Check. No days missed.
  • Go for a run Monday, Tuesday, Friday. Check. Well…..i missed Friday, but replaced it with today’s run due to weather yesterday. I’ll probably go for a run tomorrow too.
  • Try out websites to manage the goals. 1/2 check. 43Things.com is kinda working out, but im still sure there’s something better out there.
  • I pulled together the pictures of the upstairs rooms for the house renovation collection. Check.
  • Pay off half the lowes bill. Check. We used some insurance money that we had set aside for repairs. But instead we’ve had to use it to pay down that balance.
  • Melody and I are chatting tomorrow about the credit cards. We have an idea about what we’re going to do, but haven’t chosen a winner yet.

    now for the depressing part…

  • I weighed myself, and found that not only had i not lost weight, i had actually put on 1.5 pounds since last Sunday.

I dont know how that happened. I ran, i ate better this week, and i went up. Strange. Now i’m not one to spiral into madness because of this, but it is confusing me. Hopefully the old adage about turning 30 wasn’t literally true for the day i turned 30. Anyway….maybe by the time i weight myself tomorrow, i’ll be back to my starting point. Here’s hoping!
