34 hours after leaving Brisbane…..we are back in banner Elk. Fire Ants welcomed us back to our car in the charlotte airport parking lot. That was fun. Sprayed them down with De-Icer, and then with some bug spray, and drove back from Charlotte with the windows down to disperse the fumes. Then Bug Bombed the car overnight. Finally got back [...]
Today was our travel day, where we went from Port Douglas to Cairns to Brisbane to Toowoomba. We flew with Virgin Blue from Cairns to Brisbane (2 hour flight), and then split up into a couple of cars for the drive back to Toowoomba. Melody and I drove back with Chris and Matt in Chris’ car (my brothers for those who [...]
Today was really the first time we have really relaxed (Somewhat), as we only did something in the morning. We got up and went to the Bird Habitat (dont remember the exact name), where you pay an entry fee, and get breakfast and entrance into a wildlife habitat. Breakfast was great, with some really good hot and cold food, and [...]
Today was our trip to the Outer Reef. We arrived at the Marina early, and had some breakfast at Soul and Pepper for the second day in a row. We boarded at 9:30 and the catamaran pulled away at 10:00am ready for the 90 minute journey to the outer reef. Quicksilver Reef Tours served free tea and coffee for us, [...]
We took a quick drive up the coast this morning to the Daintree Rainforest with our parents. We stopped at a couple of places to take some pictures, but were able to take a lot on the rainforest canopy walk ($25). Not much else happened today, so were just now deciding to go and get some dinner. Probably pizza? Tomorrow…Reef [...]
Quick entry for today. Up at 9:00am in Alice Springs. Bus to Airport. Paid $2 per minute for internet. Fly to Cairns. Picked up by parents. Drove to Port Douglas (45 minutes away from Cairns). Checked into 3 bedroom apartment on beach front (almost). Had dinner (Wood-Fired Pizza) in Port Douglas. Saw a 9ft Python on the road near our [...]
Today were were able to sleep in until 5:40am. We had breakfast over a heated discussion about the metits of mixing vegemite with other condiments and spreads, and which bread-product it was best placed on. A quick 15 minute drive to Kings Canyon parking lot, and we started our trek directly up to the ridge-line of the canyon. The whole [...]
Up at 5:00 for breakfast, ready to leave for the Uluru Sunrise and complete base-walk at 6:00am. Weather…cold. Melody had a harder time with the cold than i did, but it was still cold enough for me to wear 4 layers. Melody i think had 5 layers on, and kept them on most of the morning. Breakfast was great. Kylie [...]
My mistake for the next few blog entries, is that i am writing them 5 days after the fact. I havent had the time or energy to write each night, but now we’re in Port Douglas (North Queensland), and i have a little more down time to fill in the blanks. Today we rose at 5:00 or so, to get [...]
Today was fairly uneventful. We rose at 6:30, so we could leave to arrive at the airport by 8:00am. Don and Jessie were flying to Brisbane to be picked up by my parents. They are staying in Toowoomba for the next 4 days, while Melody and I flew to Ayers Rock. We will be doing a ‘safari in style’ which [...]
