My old friend Palmer was staying with us for the weekend, having driven up from South Carolina to hang out for my birthday and play some golf. So we headed to play at Lonnie Poole, the new NC State golf course, with my friend Jason Austin, and his friend Dave. I was worried during the  [ Read More ]

I did not have high hopes for today. We’re still struggling to come to terms with the SpawnWatch news, and so there’s not much that we feel like doing at all. I got up to immerse myself in soccer, and for once, Liverpool, although disappointing, got a much needed win. After that, we met up  [ Read More ]

Today, I ran in the Reindeer Fun Run (5K) in Southern Pines, NC. Our god daughter, Allyson, was running in it, and needed 3 other people to join as a team….so her Mom, Melody and I joined up. Her mom and Melody walked, but Allyson and I registered to be timed, and ran the course.  [ Read More ]

In what has become a tradition, Melody and I went to The Melting Pot tonight for dinner, except this time it was on my parent’s dime. It’s problematic, expensive and just a hassle to send gifts back and forth through international methods, so they asked me to use a credit card we share to pay  [ Read More ]

Last night went as well as we could hope. Melody slept through from about 1:30am until 6:00am, with only one wake-up. There’s been no more nausea, and the pain level on the smiley-face/frowny-face scale is now hovering around a 4 or 5. But just recently she started getting a pretty bad headache, and is now back to being nauseous. Obviously she’s getting some medication for it, but  [ Read More ]

Most of this is as described by Melody’s parents, and also Melody. I’ve been at home since around 10:30am when we switched shifts. Melody is feeling much better than this morning, but still not anywhere near 100%. She has been up and walking a little on her own (while holding the rollable IV-drip of course),  [ Read More ]

Long night last night. Melody probably got about 2 hours total sleep by her account. I got about 3 I think, interspersed with waking up to help out, and try to pay attention when the nurses came in. The nurses last night were great. Kristen and Beth were the opposite of what you might assume  [ Read More ]

So…Melody finally made her way back up to her recovery room around 6:20pm. She was pretty drugged up, but in some fairly bad pain (an 8 out of 10 on the smiley to frowny face scale) according to her. She’s a trooper though, and is dealing with it well. She’s allowed to have clear liquids,  [ Read More ]
